The meeting has been held within the framework of the EU-funded Eastern Partnership Civil Society Facility

On January 30, 2024, a one-day workshop was held to discuss mechanisms for the control of the work of a Mayor and its office by the Municipality Councils.

The workshop was held for the representatives of media and civil society organizations working in Tetritskaro, Marneuli, Bolnisi and Akhaltsikhe municipalities.

Local journalists working in four municipalities how to report on the control mechanisms of the Municipal Councils, its majority and opposition members. Civil society organizations have studied how to monitor the use of control mechanisms by the municipal councils and thereby facilitate control of the Mayor and City Hall services.

In four sessions we discussed:
• Division of competencies of state and municipal powers; separation of powers in the municipalities.
• Mechanisms of control of municipal executive bodies by a City Council: question of a member of the municipal council, interpellation, control over the inforcement of decisions of a municipal council, reports of the mayor and his structural units, request information.
• Adoption of and amendment to the municipal budget; control of budget performance.
• Methods of Monitoring the work of a municipal council and its members.

The meeting has been held within the framework of the EU-funded Eastern Partnership Civil Society Facility.

Within the framework of the project, we will continue to work with the media and civil society representatives of four municipalities with the aim to inform local communities about the control functions of the municipal councils.
