The Role of Lay Members of Judicial Councils in Making the Judiciary Independent and Accountable

On February 16th was conducted the online discussion: The Role of Lay Members of Judicial Councils in Making the Judiciary Independent and Accountable which was organized by Group of Independent Lawyers (GIL), Democracy Index - Georgia and International Network of Judicial Reformers (INJR), with the support of the USAID Rule of Law Program.

Presenters from Poland, Czechia and Slovakia raised the problematic issues about the role of non-judge members in the Councils of Justice, their accountability, tension between judge and non-judge members, corporatism and other questions related to lay members, based on the experience of European countries.
